Abstract

I’m an engineer who would rather ship the code than stand at the bench all day, so the hardware stays within arm’s reach and I stay in the chair. I work at Nuro on fleet infrastructure under the AI platform — self-driving cars, imagine Waymo, except we do the software stack and then make it talk to a bunch of automotive and platform partners. When autonomy falls short, the system I work on puts the car back on the road. We call it waypointing, which is a cute name for remote control “please do not stay stuck in a parking lot.”

Day to day that is cameras, live streaming, real-time comms, networks, simulation, making GPU clusters compatible and actually fast. A ton of stuff meshed together so a safety-critical system stays extremely reliable and low-latency when precision matters so, so much.
